viking warrior costumeThis costume is termed a deluxe costume. I think this basically means pretty much everything comes with it. Many costumes you see in photos have other items added to the costume to make it work. Indeed, without these extra items the costume just would not look right but they are not part of the package you purchase.

With the viking warrior costume, as seen in the photo, all the essential items, apart from the sword come with the costume. And the items are good quality with attention to detail. For instance, the edging on the tunic, cape and belt have a Celtic pattern. So it is not just a burlap sack of a tunic with no shape or refinement.

The obligatory viking helmet is made of vinyl and from what I have read has a foam lining inside which ensures a fairly snug fit. The sleeves are a polyester fabric but it is designed in a coarse pattern to resemble chain mail. It looks a bit like chain mail but obviously is far more comfortable to wear. The costume is finished of with arm and leg gauntlets that appear to be animal fur. This is of course faux fur and is trying to replicate what a Viking might have worn to protect his arms and legs from the cold weather and from his foe.

This is a fairly accurate or authentic viking costume but it is debatable whether a viking would have had Celtic patterns on his tunic. Maybe he was a Viking that had colonized and settled in Ancient Britain. He had picked up a few ideas from the Celts around there just as the Celts probably picked up a few ideas from the Vikings.

Vikings colonized many parts of Britain and Ireland in the early middle ages. They were so successful in there colonization that Danish kings, notably Canute and his son Harthacanute, ruled as King of England for a short time in the 10th century.

Another fact that many people dispute in an authentic viking costume is the horned helmet. Research suggests Vikings were just as likely to wear a helmet without the horns. The horned helmet was popularized by Victorian revivalists in Britain and Germany of the Viking traditions and mythology.
