Viking Halloween Costume – Get An Original Costume Idea For Halloween
Vikings were a people based in the Scandinavian countries of Northern Europe around the early middle ages. They were famed for traveling vast distances by their unique design of long boat. Depending on what they found on their travels, they would settle or colonize the land (Iceland/Greenland) or trade or raid with the inhabitants (Ireland/Britain and many other lands).
Based on these activities, particularly the raiding, they had a fearsome reputation. They were seen as being a warrior like people that lived for fighting. Some even describe them as pirates. However there society had a good deal of structure to it.

Vikings had their own religion that was termed a pagan religion. It had many gods, notably Odin, king of the Gods. Thor was his son and god of Thunder (or war you could say). Thor was appealed to for protection but he is very much a stereotype or inspiration for how vikings might have looked.
A viking Halloween costume is a great costume to wear for the holiday season. It takes into account the stereotypical look that many believe vikings had in their day. So the cow horned helmet is the first thing you look for in a viking costume.
You should also expect to wear a tunic of some description. You can even make your own tunic if needed. Many vikings would wear some form of chain mail. They would have metal shoulder guards, gauntlets for the arms and leg guards. A shield, sword or Axe would complete the vikings armory.
Many people really get into reviving the old viking traditions by reenacting battles in full viking dress. These costumes are as realistic as you can get. Often much research goes into them for authenticity. They include real chain mail and weapons. For anyone celebrating a Halloween party, this is probably not needed or even practical in a social environment.
A better option is to get a viking Halloween costume from a costume retailer. These costumes are more suited for comfort but also have a look or at least imitate a viking costume. Most of the heavy components will be made of plastic or vinyl so that they are more comfortable to wear and take off/put on.
