Who were the Vikings to begin with?

These seafarers were originally from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.  Then, during the Scandinavian expansion, which was around AD 800-1050, the Vikings spread around Europe all the way up to the North Atlantic.  This time was also called the Viking age.

The Vikings were not only raiders, although that is what they are primarily known for.  They were explorers and traders as well leaving behind a long legacy of family and place names that are commonly mentioned in traditions, folk talks, and among the local customs.

The Vikings originally believed and worshiped Thor and Odin.  However, through time, many have converted to Christianity which they eventually brought back to Scandinavia around the 10th century.
